Shak completed undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from Taylor’s University, Malaysia in 2016. She then pursued her Master’s degree in Infectious Diseases at The University of Western Australia in 2017, with research project entitled ‘Impact of host and microbial factors on mesothelial cell responses in peritoneal dialysis associated peritonitis’ supervised by Dr. Aron Chakera at the Translational Renal Research Group.

She is currently doing her PhD in the Pleural Medicine Unit of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and linked with the Institute for Respiratory Health, aiming to harness the anti-tumour effects of bacteria as a therapy for mesothelioma under the supervision of Professor YC Gary Lee.
