Dr Sally Lansley BSc (hons) PhD

(2009 - 2020)

Sally Lansley received her BSc (Honours) in Molecular Genetics from Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia in 2003. Her honours project was undertaken at the Tumour Immunology Group under the supervision of Dr Delia Nelson and was aimed at identifying and characterizing tumour infiltrating lymphocytes in a murine model of malignant mesothelioma. She then commenced a PhD investigating the origin and plasticity of normal mesothelial cells and malignant mesothelioma cells and demonstrated the ability of these cells to differentiate to osteoblasts and adipocytes.

Sally was supervised by A/Prof. Steven Mutsaers and Dr Cecilia Prêle at the Lung Institute of Western Australia and the University of Western Australia. She successfully completed her PhD in 2008 and continued to work in the same research area until securing a postdoctoral scientist position in the Pleural Diseases Unit of LIWA under the supervision of Winthrop Professor YC Gary Lee. Her current research projects are aimed at investigating novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and elucidating the pathobiology of pleural infection.
