Emeritus Professor Eric G. Saint Memorial Award and TSANZ Research Medal 2021
Professor Gary Lee was recently awarded the “Emeritus Professor Eric G. Saint Memorial Award” 2021 by The Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia (ADSA) for his years of service and dedication to asbestos sufferers here in Western Australia and around the world.
He was also awarded the TSANZ Research Medal 2021 by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ). The award is given in recognition for Prof Lee’s outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge in Respiratory Medicine in the the Australasia region, especially his sustained excellence in pleural research.
In his thank you speech, Prof Lee said that the award was an important recognition for all researchers in pleural disease. “In the last 20 years, our work has changed clinical practice on many occasions, has improved the diagnosis and treatment of various pleural conditions, reducing mortality, morbidity, invasive interventions and time patients have to spend in hospital.”
“We have proudly completed several investigator-led mutlicentre randomized trials that have been published in leading clinical journals and this is through the hard work and goodwill of many of our collaborators throughout the Asian Pacific. At the same time, we have a lot of out of the box ideas that we explored that are exciting and potentially can improve clinical care.” he added.
